Virginia R. Harris: Quilt Artist is a documentary which chronicles the creative life and work of acclaimed African-American quilt artist Virginia Harris.
Harris' quilts hang in the Smithsonian and Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, and have been collected by celebrities such as Alice Walker. They run the stylistic gamut from traditional American decorative, to African inspired, to complex narrative political statements. Her political quilts involve issues such as corporate greed, prison torture, the Patriot Act, and racism.
This video includes three sections: a biographical segment, a tour of Harris's 2004 one-woman political quilt show at Sonoma State University, and a complete retrospective of her work set to music.
